Spare us a few Bob Guv?
Marriott Spares a Few Bob
One of Bristol’s top hotels is to ask its guests to “Spare a few bob” to help fight prostate cancer.
The Marriott Royal Hotel on College Green has renewed its support for Run for the Future, which raises awareness of the disease as well as funds for vital research into earlier diagnosis and treatment.
Last year the Hotel asked guests to add £1 to their bill every time they stayed and handed over nearly £5,000 for Run for the Future.
This year, the words of comedian Bob Monkhouse, who died from prostate cancer, are being used to encourage people staying at the Royal to support the charity appeal.
Run for the Future, a 5km fun run organised by Bristol Rotarians, has raised £175,000 over the past four years for the Bristol Urological Prostate Cancer Appeal. The money is now funding a joint research project between the BUI at Southmead Hospital and the University of the West of England.
Manager John Hazard said the Hotel had no hesitation in renewing its support.
“March has been designated Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and we want to do our bit to help. Leaflets featuring some of the personalities who have been affected by the disease will be displayed in every one of the Hotel’s 242 rooms, asking our guests to support the appeal.”
In addition, 15 staff from the Royal and the Marriott City Centre are planning to take part in the Three Peaks Challenge in July in aid of prostate cancer research and they will be entering a team of 20 in Run for the Future.
This year’s event takes place on the Downs in Bristol on Sunday, 19 September. For more details, or to register to take part, visit www.runforthefuture.org
