Redwood on the Run

Another major Bristol hotel has signed up to support this year’s Run for the Future in aid of prostate cancer care.

The Brook Redwood Hotel and Country Club at Failand will not only be entering a corporate team, but also encouraging new leisure club members to take part.

Run for the Future is an annual 5km run organised by Bristol Rotarians which this year takes place on the Downs in Bristol on Sunday, 19 September.

Over the past four years it has raised more than £175,000 for the Bristol Urological Institute Prostate Cancer Charity Appeal, money which is now being used to fund two research projects at Southmead Hospital and the University of the West of England.

More than 35,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year and more than 10,000 die. Earlier diagnosis greatly improved the chances of successful treatment and part of Run for the Future’s aim is to raise awareness and get men to get regular check ups with their GP’s once they get to the age of 50.

Redwood Hotel Sales & Marketing Manager Shaun Baker says this year’s involvement is just the start. “We not only plan to enter a team and encourage our members to participate in next month’s event, but we intend to become even more involved next year.

“The more we can encourage men and their families to talk about prostate cancer, the more lives we will help save,” he said.

Redwood Hotel also plans to make its staff more aware of prostate cancer and encourage them and their families to have regular PSA blood tests to check for the disease.
