Businesses scoop awards

Two Bristol firms are to receive awards for their contribution to this year’s Run for the Future event in support of Prostate Cancer research at Southmead Hospital.

Fowlers Motorcycles and insurance group Jelf Lampier are both receiving Bristol Blue Glass trophies as part of the corporate challenge in the 5km fun run which raises money for the Bristol Urological Institute.

Fowlers fielded the largest corporate team and Jelf Lampier raised the most sponsorship per runner.

In total Run for the Future has raised nearly £35,000 this year to fund vital prostate cancer research. It means the event has now raised over £225,000 since 2006 for research into the disease.

Run for the Future is organised by Rotary in Bristol to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Appeal at the BUI.

This year’s Run for the Future saw over six hundred runners register to take part in the 5km event on Durdham Downs, Bristol, on September 18.

More than 60 free PSA tests for prostate cancer were also carried out at the event, by the event sponsors, Spire Bristol Hospital.

Martina Peattie, race organiser, said: “The Bristol Rotary organisers of Run for the Future and the Bristol Urological Institute would like to thank the staff at Jelf Lampier and Fowlers for their help and support in the fight against prostate cancer.

We are delighted to have raised so much from this year’s Run for the Future, particularly in the current economic climate, and it is thanks to the dedication of our runners, the support of local businesses and everyone who has donated that we are able to succeed in raising awareness about prostate cancer and saving men’s lives in Bristol.”
